It had been a long and tough week for Hibiscussting, and even at the end of what had been her official quest destination she still wasn’t sure if she was ready to go back and face everyone back at camp. She had vanished before with relatively few questions asked of her. But this was her second time. And it had been longer than three days. Would people question her this time? She had responsibilities this time. She had left Lunarpaw and his training as well as her clan. Hibiscussting took in a big breath and released it, looking over the island. To go back or not go go back? She still didn’t know. It was where she had been born, but was it where she belonged?

Nightfrost had become very desperate over the last week. He had been looking tirelessly for Hibiscussting. He wanted to know why she left, and know what he could do to bring her back. After all, he didn't want to lose another cat from his clan if he could help it. He had decided that today he was going to climb the volcano to look for her. It had taken him a while, but he soon reached the top. He looked all over the cliffs that he was at. So far, he saw no sign of her, so he decided to go further up, to see if she was up there.

Hibiscussting was able to pick up the presence of Nightfrost as he got closer. She considered hiding for a moment, seriously considered it. But… Maybe someone from her clan was just who she needed to talk to. It felt like there was led in her paws though, hard to move. She sighed a little and poked her head over the edge so that Nightfrost could see her. “Up here Nightfrost.” She figured he was looking for her, why else would he be up here?

Nightfrost's face lit up when he saw Hibistussting. "Hibiscussting!" He shouted, moving as fast as he could to get up to where she was at. In no time at all, he was up at the area. "I finally found you. I've been spending a lot of the time this week trying to find you..." He said, looking right at her eyes.

Hibiscussting took a step back, quite surprised to see Nightfrost so eager to see her. She was expecting anger or something like that. Not this. He was too.. Happy to see her. The uncertainty and shock was clear on her face. “Oh… Umm…” She wasn’t sure what to say in respond to that.

"I was worried that you had run away from the island, or that you died. I'm glad that those aren't the case. I would not have ever lived it down if that happened." Nightfrost said. He then took a step closer. "But... Why did you run away?" He asked, suddenly getting very serious.

Run away from the island. What a feat that would be. She doubted the other clans would accept her. While she had been trying to make friends in other clans it wasn’t so easy when everyone was on gaurd. Which was kind of silly considering how long they had been at peace. Maybe more than one cat shared her sentiment that the island was simply quiet. Too quiet. Too peaceful. Was it just calm? Or the calm before the storm? There was no telling.
But as for why she ran away… She wasn’t sure she could tell Nightfrost. Not that she cared for Coldheart whatsoever at this point, it was just that she was not yet quite ready to share that reason. She did not regret running away at this point, she had had a much needed journey. “I had my reasons.” She muttered unhelpfully, looking down at the ground.

Nightfrost shook his head. "I see no reason for you to keep secrets. Was the reason something I did? Another member of the clan? Did you feel like you needed to do this? I need to know so I can do my best to help you." He said.

“It wasn’t you.” Hibiscussting said, her tone a bit short as she said these words. She had hoped that after she had said her last thing that Nightfrost would leave well enough alone. But of course not. Hibiscussting was a veritable fortress of secrets. But the main way she kept them secret was by not revealing that she had any to begin with. “You don’t need to see a reason for there to be a reason Nightfrost.”

Nightfrost growled. "I figured that you would do this. You would never trust anyone to help you, so you keep all your secrets to yourself, which may cause nothing but problems in the future for you." He said.

“I handled it.” Hibiscussting said forcefully through her teeth. At least she was pretty sure she handled it. Hell she’d even gone to Mystic Island and seen her mother. “That’s what I was doing while I was away. Handling it.” She didn’t want to tell him what she’d been handling, didn’t want to tell him she’d run away because she was too weak to face the truth.

Nightfrost shook his head again. He still didn't believe her one bit, and he wasn't going to let her get away with this. "Fine. I'm only trying to help you. I could be screaming at you and trying to punish you, but I'm not. That should tell you that I'm serious about wanting to help." He said.

He was serious about wanting to help, so he indirectly threatened her with punishment? She would retort and say that technically she hadn't broken any rules in leaving, but she wasn't an idiot. Not that her clan really needed her. Except for... Yah. "Help me? More like help yourself. Without me there's only one or two she-cats who can actually have kits in the entire clan." And at this point she wasn't even including Jellyray. While she respected the she-cat she did not for a moment believe that if Jellyray had kits with anyone in the clan that it would result in anything but tragedy. And even then the results might be terrible. Plus, if Jellyray was going to have kits she'd have done it by now. It'd be quite hard to change her mind in that respect.
She knew that the fact she was a she-cat was pertinent than more to just Nightfrost... But Nightfrost seemed to be the only one who cared that at the rate they were going they were going to wipe themselves off the map for sheer apathy.

Nightfrost sighed, and stayed silent for a while. He couldn't disagree with her. If she did leave, then the clan would be really hurt with one less female in it, which would spell disaster down the road. He then looked at her again. "I can't deny that what you said is true, for the most part. The part that isn't correct is how I wish to help myself. I don't ever want to force other cats in the clan to do anything. The reason why I want to help you is because..." He said, before going silent again. He had to think about how to word this. "Because I know that you'll most likely be the one to bring change to the clan, and possibly the island." He said.

Hibiscussting’s tail lashed as the silence stretched on, her guard still majorly up. There were things she just simply wasn’t ready to tell most yet. Let alone to someone whom she believed only had only missed her due to the fact that with so few females in the clan there would be horrendous for the blood pool, bottlenecking the genes horribly. It- Her thoughts mentally crashed as Nightfrost finally spoke up.
Her eyes went wide with shock in hearing Nightfrost say such a thing. She’d be lying if she said that she hadn’t ever thought such a thing herself. But never on such a big scale as the entire island. Their clan? Once upon a time she could have imagined herself fixing the clan. She saw the bitterness in their hearts, she knew they all had their masks. They all hid from one another, deceiving each other as they did themselves. This. As one who had hidden her true self her whole life she could see it, she could see perhaps even what they refused to see…
“What makes you say that?” Hibiscussting asked him, struggling not to smile. It wouldn’t be appropriate… She didn’t want to seem ambitious. It wasn’t that at this point. She just wanted to fix her broken clan. It meant the world to her to hear that someone thought that she was capable of creating such change.

Nightfrost walked a bit closer. "I heard your ideas, your opinions, and what you think. You have a lot of good ideas that can help the island, even if no one else may agree with them. It's that sort of thing that makes me believe that you can change the island, if you put your mind to it." He said.

Well that was slightly less inspiring than she was hoping for, but even so. No. It was good. Definitely good. An uncertain smile spread across her face at Nightfrost’s words.
She had the ideas for it. All she needed was the will to put it into action. Ever since Redflower had died she couldn’t help but doubt herself on that. Up until her warriorhood ceremony she had gotten everything she put her mind to. When she hadn’t gotten what she wanted then it had rattled her quite a bit, but it made her question… Ought she get everything she wanted? No. Redflower might still be alive if she hadn’t been so stubborn in her want of Coalheart as her new mentor.
She still wished Leafstar had honored her request to give Seapaw her warrior name post mortem before giving her her own warrior name… But there was little she could do about that at this point.
Hibiscussting seemed to wilt before his eyes as these thoughts ran through her head. Thoughts like these were indeed a heavy burden to bear. She’d been lying far too well for far too long in an attempt to protect herself. But in the end it was just hurting herself. Hurting herself to feel the need to lie and hurting her when cats like Coldheart thought they could spout out just anything because they thought her to be a strong, resilient she-cat who didn’t let anything get to her.
“You have more faith in me than I myself. What if I change it for the worse?” She was sure she’d mess it up some how. Such counter cultural ideas were bound to cause strife even if they were enacted.

Nightfrost shrugged. "Like I said: If you put your mind to it, you can do a lot of things." He said, looking up to the sky. "If you can also get other cats to support your ideas, then you truly can get a lot done, even if everyone else may oppress you." He said. "Not only that, but you need to have faith in yourself." He said, looking back at her.

She could do a lot. Perhaps too much. And that in part perhaps scared her, mostly in part because she did not have faith in herself. It would be hard to get cats like Coldheart to support her. And Speckledcrest. But with Speckledcrest it was just cats in general, not personal. Hibiscussting sighed, looking down at the ground again. “Maybe. I'm just not sure I should." Just because she could didn't mean she should. And she was afraid of the fact that to get people on her side she would probably have to manipulate them. While she had done it plenty in the past it made her squeamish now. It had too much of an element of lying to it. Despite what her mother said to her when she'd visited Mystic Island, there was still the core fact that Hibiscussting was a massive liar. It wasn't something she wanted to be.
But she was. She was trying... But it wasn't easy for someone who had lived their whole life in a lie.
