Nightfrost frowned. "She might, but I don't think so. If she was, someone would have found her by now." He said. He noticed that they were a good ways down the mountain. "We seem to be making good progress." He said.

She nodded, looking towards Rogue Island. “Did we ever really look there though?” She had never seen Sweetpaw in her life, which probably meant the she-cat was older than her at this point. She knew theoretically it was dangerous... But it was the only place one could really hide.

Nightfrost shook his head. "I have never looked there myself." He simply said. "Speaking of that, can we try to change the subject?" He asked, not feeling all that well talking about all this.

“Of course.” Said Hibiscussting with a somber look on her face. That was fair enough. She understood how such a thing could be a charged topic. As they continued down Hibiscussting mused what more there was to talk about. Probably not even the trip to Mystic Island would do, even if it had been quite interesting. She’d met one of Scorchclan’s new members. It was a shame really… From what she had heard he was half Rushingclan. If only her clan hadn’t been so short sighted all those moons ago and driven he and his mother out. "So how's the folks back at Rushingclan?" She asked, unknowing of the fact that Coalheart had died during her time away.

Nightfrost sighed. "Well, during your time away, a lot of things happened. A lot of the cats began to get sick. Not just in RushingClan, but from what I heard the other clans too. What it means for us is that we lost Coalheart, which is something that isn't good." He said.

Hibiscussting in hearing this lost focus on her footing and stepped wrong on a rock, sending her tumbling a few feet down the mountain side in a rolling motion. She managed to stop herself after a few moments of panic and straightened herself up. Blood oozed from a graze in her paw, but the pain went unheeded from the rush of adrenaline in her system.
“What?!” Coalheart was dead? This meant both of her mentors were dead now. First Redflower, now Coalheart. Both of them when she’d run away from Rushingclan, her home. Why?

Nightfrost moved over to help catch her as she rolled down the mountain. "Yeah. The medicine cats couldn't figure out why she died, but they did say it might have been an organ that went wrong." He said.

"Coalheart's dead?" She repeated, eyes wide with shock. Oh god. Her mentor was dead. And she hadn't even been there. For a moment Hibiscussting was tempted to turn right back around and go back to Mystic Island, but she stopped herself. She had seen Mysticclan. Even someone like her mother had been able to find peace there. Coalheart would be happy there. Still. It didn't stop the mere knowing she would never see her mentor again from hurting.

Nightfrost sighed. "Yeah, it was not a very good time. A lot of us were saddened by her death. Not only that, but it reduces our clan's population by one, which means more work on everyone else to cover for it." He said.

That was right. That made their she-cat numbers even lower than before. Hibiscussting would be more worried about this, but found herself at the moment unable to fully latch onto anything but the sheer pain of knowing her mentor was dead. Hibiscussting simply lay down right then and there, curling upon herself as she started to sob. Coalheart was dead.

Nightfrost noticed that she curled up into a ball as he began to climb back down again. He stopped and climbed back up the mountain to get to her. He wasn't quite sure what to do, but he had to try something. He sat down next to her. "I know that it must be hard to hear that news with someone who was a part of our clan, but at least they're in a better place, still watching us from above." He said. Nightfrost didn't know that Coalheart was Hibiscussting's mentor. He soon draped his tail over her shoulders, as a sign of comfort for her.

It felt odd, crying in front of someone like this. But at this point she wasn't too worried about that. She was just so sad that her second mentor had died. She knew Coalheart was in a better place... Hell even her mother was happier there. But that was because she wasn't stuck in a weakened body that could barely run two feet without getting tired. She noddged in agreement with what Nightfrost said. Coalheart would be happier there... Hibiscussting just wished she'd been there. It felt like Redflower dying all over again.
She continued weeping despite his words though, an did so for about five minutes or so before getting up and wiping her tears. She looked far from better, but she seemed done for now.

Nightfrost stayed with her as she continued to weep. Once she got up and wiped them off her face, Nightfrost looked back down the mountain. There was still quite a bit left to go, but at least now they should be able to proceed without much of a hitch.

The rest of the trip down the mountain went mostly in silence, with Hibiscussting offering little but grunts at any attempts at striking up a conversation. At one point Hibiscussting paused. The majority of her mental anguish spent, the physical pain was now clamoring for her attention. She lifted her grazed paw and grimaced at the bloody wound coated with ash and embedded with little pebbles. This was not going to be fun to get treated.

Nightfrost picked up on the hints to stay quiet as they continued down the mountain. He didn't know why she didn't want to talk, but he also didn't want to make her angry about it either. Still, he continued down, going at a faster pace than the first time he did this.

Hibiscussting continued on after a few cursory licks to her paw, continuing in silence and mourning for her lost mentor. She had been the first one whom Hibiscussting had realized was like her, that made her realize that maybe there was a functional way to be as she was. Coalheart and she were two birds of a feather, and now she was dead.

Soon, they reached the base of the volcano. Nightfrost shook his fur off of any rocks and dirt that were in his fur. He looked back at Hibiscustting. "Well, we're back here. Are you sure you're ready to go back?" He asked.

“I think I need a bit.” Muttered Hibiscussting, sitting down after he asked the question. She wasn’t quite ready for the barrage of questions that was sure to come upon her return. And the lack of them from one cat in particular.

Nightfrost stopped. "So, do you want me to stay here, or do you want to be alone?" He asked her.
