OOC: yes, I know this is the third gathering thread I've made XD Each one of them was for a different thing, and so is this one too
A new moon, a new gathering. Last moons sure had been interesting. And this moon while she probably wasn't going to do the same thing she did before, she was going to socialize a bit. Might as well get to know the other clans. Maybe make some friends in them. If she was going to be a Merchant like she was kind of hoping, she had better work on her foreign relations. She padded up to a random calico tom and poked him on the shoulder. "Hello there, I'm Hibiscussting." Despite the boldness in her step there was a faint scent of fear rising from her fur. And the moment she realized it, she wished she'd noticed it before stepping up to talk to the tom. DAMN IT!

Ashenpaw looked around at the others in the gathering. Many he'd known as apprentices were now warriors with apprentices. He flexed his ears back and laid down, grooming his pelt awkwardly. His tail twitched irritably. When would he get his moment? When would he ever figure out what his future name was? Perhaps he didn't have one. He was pulled out of his thoughts when he heard a she-cat behind him. He blinked, turning to look at her. "Um... hi.." he mewed, his voice like that of a fully matured cat. "I'm Ashenpaw," he mewed. He looked at the warrior awkwardly, his ears twitching. "How are you?" he asked, putting on a bright face and tilting his head. He wasn't as adorable as he used to be, his adorableness replaced with robust handsomeness instead.
OOC: BECAUSE HE IS A BEAUTIFUL CAT.

Damn. They didn’t make them like they did in Rushingclan.
Shut up little voice!
GAAH!
“I-I’m great.” HIbiscussting said after a moment from recovering. She wasn’t surprised to hear that he was still an apprentice. Hibiscussting had been the exception in her clan to the fact… It was strange that she had become a warrior before the cats who had been there before she had even been born… Weird. When she was leader she was definitely going to try and do something about that. Yes, she was saying when. She was pretty sure it would happen. Once she set her mind on something she inevitably got it. “How’s it like in Scorchclan this time of year?” She asked, trying to strike up a conversation as she tried to push away the knot of anxiety in her stomach.

Ashenpaw blinked. He could tell she was nervous and wondered why. Was she scared of him? He tilted his head. "Oh, Scorchclan is nice." he said."A bit cooler than usual," he added lightly. He broke into a small smirk. "You seem nervous," he mewed, getting up on his tall legs. He glanced at her. He smiled, his tail twitching from side to side.

He noticed? NO! Hibiscussting scrambled for a moment before reaching for her metaphorical mask. A cocky grin appeared on her face… This was a mask she’d perfected during her time as an apprentice. A mask with swagger to hide the fact that she questioned very nearly every post she took. “I’m not nervous at all.” She said, then deciding to change the topic. “So why you still an apprentice?” Littlepaw was little and Floodpaw was blind. She couldn’t see a single reason that this tom was still an apprentice at all. That training apprentices was a problem even in other clans was disconcerting to the extreme. She supposed she could use this to her advantage if she ever became leader. Stricter training regimes and what not.
Rushingclan would be quite the force to reckon with.

Ashenpaw flexed his ears back almost instantly when she brought up the fact that he was still an apprentice. He sighed, glancing away. "...I, haven't really been trained... at all." he replied flatly.

“Why not?”
This feeling fluttering in her chest… She hoped no one was listening to her heart, as it was going a little bit excessive. Just as well it would take a high degree of focus to hear it and a quiet environment, which wasn’t easily attained at a gathering. This was nothing compared to the feeling she still got around Spiderfur… But Spiderfur had told her himself that he could never return her feelings. It was hard to manage… But she had managed to wear a mask for most of her life, it pained her to now have to wear one around Spiderfur but… It had to be done she supposed.
She had to move on some how. Hibiscussting’s mask was flawless and pristine as all this zipped through her mind. And while her expression did shift to somewhat of a concerned expression, it did nothing to betray what thoughts lay underneath, but rather responded to the situation. “When you say you haven’t been trained do you mean to say that you haven’t been trained or you haven’t been training? Maybe both?” There was a distinct difference between the two. Floodpaw was a perfect example of someone who just didn’t train.
She really hoped Coldheart didn’t mind the conversation she had in mind for him. He deserved an apprentice who tried. And Speckledkit… She was pretty sure would fit well for him. Coldheart may very well learn as much from her as she him. Maybe…. Maybe she was full of stupid ideas. Who was she, the apprentice of Redflower, to think that she could make good warrior-apprentice pairings?

Ashenpaw flicked his ear. "I haven't been trained. I've been training myself before... but... I just don't feel like it's up to par with others..." he mewed. "I've never been real graceful.. and I still stumble a lot," he mewed. It was mainly because while he was younger his paws were disproportionately large compared to his youthful body. He'd filled his paws in well now, but had long since given up on training himself on much other than hunting. He looked at the warrior, his green gaze curious.
(So are we awkwardly going to assume that he's a 30 something year old apprentice or do you want me to keep him at 17 moons? It would be interesting if he were 30 something and still an apprentice XD)

OOC: Awkward, but more common than you’d think actually XD
This is your chance. Thought Hibiscussting to herself. You could spend time with this hunk of a guy, perhaps get some shiny babbles from Scorchclan. And… Of course most importantly, have someone whom the ultimate price of training him would truly be ensuring that if Scorchclan ever started muttering ideas of attacking Rushingclan. Poorly trained or not he was sure to have a few friends. And with the clans being as small as they were, one network of friends in another clan was all you needed to assure peace. Hopefully.
Maybe this would help her get over Spiderfur… “I’m personally of the opinion that when you have someone who wants to learn, it is the fault of the mentor, not the apprentice.” Meowed Hibiscussting, who had seen first hand Littlepaw…. She wasn’t sure whether it was Littlepaw or Nightfrost who wasn’t trying. It was probably both.
What she was thinking about suggesting would probably seem awkward… After all while she was younger than he, she was a fully trained warrior while he was not… Didn’t seem right really.
She’d give it some time before she suggested it… She had to make sure this wouldn’t be the kind of tom to take what she taught him and perhaps use it in battle against them one day. That was always a risk, yes, but she wasn’t going to just blunder into it.

He flicked his ear. "Yeah, I suppose," he mewed. He thought back to his countless mentors, now his current who was too busy keeping the clan running to bother with training at the moment. His tail twitched once in irritation. OF course it wasn't his fault he hadn't been trained! He was always open to training! He was always asking, constantly pleading for one to help him. But because of his lack of training Blindstar was without a doubt holding him back from becoming a warrior. Or perhaps she was just busy too, always busy, all of them.. for 30 moons just about. "It just seems like my mentor just doesn't care. I've been through so many, I can't hardly remember who my first was," he mewed, tilting his head slightly to think. "Yeah, no, I don't remember," he muttered. He chuckled slightly. "But I guess it is what it is... no one else has been willing to train," he murmured.

Poor thing. "What happened to them all?" Scorchclan'so mortality rate had to be quite high, Hibiscussting was assuming that was why he had been through so many mentors. Se herself had had two. But that was for... Different reasons. Most cats did not fall in that category. Most cats didn't have to live with the burden of being already indirectly responsible for their mentors death.

"They just... didn't want to train me," he mewed. HE flicked an ear and sighed.

"What would you give for someone who would actually train you?" Hibiscussting asked cautiously, hoping he did not yet catch on to what he was thinking. But it would be fine perhaps if he did.
OOC: what would you give for a Klondike bar?

He blinked. Then glanced at the ground. "I don't know..." he mewed. "I'd give what I could to become a warrior," he added. He glanced over at Hibiscussting. His gaze lingered on her momentarily as if contemplating something, then his gaze shifted to his paws. He shrugged. "I guess it depends on whoever it is and what they want from me," he said.

Well... She might as well go for it. If she figured out that this guy was a bad idea to train she could always back out. "Say..." Hibiscussting paused, then spoke in almost a whisper. "Say I trained you. And say I only asked for the assurance that if Scorchclan ever think to attack Rushingclan, that you try and dissuade them. You and whatever friends you have." That and some shiny babble from Scorchclan's oasis, but she'd do that after a few weeks of training as a "payment plan" of sorts.
Scorchclan was sure to have something shiny that Rushingclan didn't have. She wanted it. Whatever it was.

He glanced at her again, his eyes widening slightly. But... she was from a different clan... He flicked his ear slightly. At this point, did it really matter? All he wanted was the knowledge to be a warrior. And he was sure he could dissuade a battle if that ever happened. He doubted it would, but he'd keep it in mind if it ever did happen. He smiled, nodding. "That would be great!" he mewed to her. His tail flicked back and forth.

“Excellent!” Hibiscussting whispered excitedly, looking around to see if anyone was really paying attention to them. Not really, everyone seemed to be minding their own business. “Follow me then!” She said as she padded away from the Gathering place as subtly as she could manage. She was going to have a second apprentice of sorts! How cool! Sure he was older than her, but this was still very awesome. She was thinking she’d make a decent Merchant if she really wanted to. Maybe she’d broach the topic with Leafstar later on.

Ashenpaw blinked. "R-right now?" he mewed. He looked around at the gathered cats before trotting as stealthily as possible after her. He had a problem with being stealthy, but at least he tried. He frowned, hoping no other cats would notice two large cats wandering their way out of the gathering area.

“Sure.” Said Hibiscussting. Most of the cats were focused on the leaders any how. “Though if you’re worried about them seeing us leave together you could wait five minutes or so before following me. I’ll be going up the mountain side at this direction.” She pointed a paw towards the direction in question. “You’ll see a sizable ledge. That’ll be where I’ll be.”
